Fiddle level descriptions

All students should have a working knowledge of their instrument and a willingness to learn by ear in a group setting.

Beginner: Designed for fiddlers with a minimum of 1 year of experience. Fiddlers will work on playing tunes by ear, with liberal use of repetition. Instruction also includes bowing techniques. The pace of beginner classes is relaxed and will be adjusted to support learning at both ends of the skills spectrum represented by class participants. 

Intermediate: These classes have much to offer the advancing player. Medium pacing of instruction, matched to the average skill level of class participants.

Advanced: Classes for fiddlers looking for a challenge. Students must be comfortable learning quickly by ear and experimenting with advanced bowing techniques. Instruction pace will be matched to the student with the highest skill level.

Kidz Fiddle: Half-day class, allowing kids to take advantage of the afternoon electives. Not intended for a complete beginner, this is a class for kids who have a minimum of 1 year of experience with the fiddle.

Guitar level descriptions

Beginner: This class is a multi-age class taught for an absolute beginning guitar player by an experienced college music professor. Imagine a semester of beginning guitar taught in a week’s time. Bring your guitar and be ready to learn!

Intermediate: Intermediate students should have a working knowledge of their guitar, the ability to tune, and the willingness to learn by ear in a group setting. The tunes will by mostly accompaniment styles for a range of skills.

Advanced: Advanced students are looking for a challenge. They should be comfortable learning by ear, ready to learn flatpicking techniques and a variety of southern and roots tunes.
