The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance presents another edition of Tunesmith Night, a monthly showcase of original music. The Saturday, March 14 show features songwriters Ezza Rose, WORTH, and Belinda Bowler. Venue is Sugar Time Bakery, located in the Burnaugh Building on North River Street and will provide the perfect atmosphere for our listening audience.
Belinda Bowler grew up singing. Some of her earliest memories are of the songs her dad sang on family vacations. From the back of the Oldsmobile station wagon she would join in, delighting in the stories the songs told. When she was in the third grade her sister taught her three chords on a guitar their dad had brought home from a thrift store. Fifty years and a few guitars later, she is still telling stories with her songs. Her latest music project is called The Keeper, a collection of 15 songs for children that adults can enjoy as well. Many of the songs come from her years as an educator. She used music in her classroom to create interest, support learning and encourage creativity with her students.
Ezza Rose was introduced to the band life at a young age. She first sat in on top of the speakers playing tambourine while her Dad’s band entertained the local watering hole in the desert town of Julian, CA. Not long after, she found a drum set under the Christmas tree. When she moved on to college, the drums wouldn’t fit in the dorm, so she picked up a guitar and started writing songs of her own. During a holiday break, Ezza hitchhiked to Portland, where she has lived for the past decade. Ezza has established herself in the Portland music scene, and has been touring communities worldwide. Her 2015 record “When The Water’s Hot” marked a departure from the softer folk sound of her past records, turning instead to her influences in rock ‘n roll. In 2018, “No Means No” dealt with vulnerable territory, discussing a lifetime of things silenced and frustrations with an unjust social and political climate. Ezza’s solo work pulls the emotional impact from a full band sound and delivers it in a stripped down, vocal driven performance incorporating elements of both folk and rock. She’s currently working on a solo album and the band is excited to be announcing new music this summer.
WORTH is the music moniker of Portland, OR based singer-songwriter Christopher Worth. WORTH has become known for his unique style of bohemian blues which he developed as a street performer traveling across the US and Europe. His new album – Pardon Me – is the third and final piece in a trilogy titled “The Identity Triptych” that began with his first two records, Six Foot Soul and Two. Produced by Steve Berlin, Pardon Me spans a wide range of genre and style and is tied together by melodic songwriting, potent lyricism, and Christopher’s powerful voice. WORTH has opened for international acts such as Allen Stone, Everlast, and Ron Artis II, and this past summer was one of the Friday night headliners Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival. His songs are timeless, captivating and real and tied together by the power and purity of his voice.
Tunesmith Night is presented in a round-robin format, with each musician playing a song, then the next taking a turn, creating an interesting and varied performance. Admission is $10 at the door or by season pass. Doors open at 6pm (SEATING IS LIMITED), music at 7pm, all ages welcome. Sugar Time will have the kitchen open for soups and sandwiches, and adult beverages, in addition to their usual yummy sweet treats.
