Carla Arnold (fiddle, guitar, mandolin) is an Elementary Music Teacher for the La Grande School District (28 years). As an Orff levels certified general music teacher at Central Elementary School, she additionally directs  after school fiddle clubs. She is active in a local folklore organization in the promotion of participant involvement in music and dance. Carla also hosts a monthly bluegrass jam and Irish Session, as well as oversees a community Contra Dance Orchestra. She and her husband (David) enjoy performing together as a duo and as part of a Bluegrass band, Blue Plate Special.

Carla has been the director of the Wallowa Fiddle Tunes Camp for 7 years and is excited to return to camp in the role of an instructor. This year she will teach Kidz Fiddle, using her skills in connecting with and making music with kids of various skill levels with the outcome of learning new, fun tunes and encouraging good instrument technique.

Carla’s Kidz Fiddle Class Description – Morning Session

Prerequisites:

  1. For fiddlers ages 8-11 who have played for a minimum of 1 year and can comfortably play from memory Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Students under 8 will be considered on a case by case basis.

  2. Tunes/songs will be taught by ear with phrase repetition and supported by fingering tab as needed.

  3. Bring your own instrument in good working condition and extra strings.

Tunes and songs will be chosen for their general recognition among community jams. Tunes will have flexible parts to integrate multi levels of skills. Expect a mix of instruction interspersed with music activities and games as well as playground activities. This will be fun!
