The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance launches its 21st season of Tunesmith Night, a showcase of original music. The concert features three songwriters sharing their original work in a round-robin format, at the historic Enterprise Odd Fellows Hall. The unique listening space provides an up-close and intimate experience for both audience and performers.
The Saturday, October 10 concert features songwriters Joe Suskind, Crystal Lariza and Bryan John Appleby. Doors open at 6:30pm with music starting at 7pm. Admission is $10. Beverage service available.

Joe Suskind
Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Joe Suskind grew up in a musical family. Joe won and lost his first paycheck as a child roadie for his father’s country band. He swore off country music as a teenager but still played guitar and has been playing ever since. As falls the apple, he could not escape the music of his youth and has been writing songs, singing and playing bluegrass music for the past 10 years. Founding member of Never Come Down, he is a dyed in the wool flat picker and sometimes prolific songwriter. He has been a guitar teacher in and around the Pacific Northwest and is always a student of the music he has now, not reluctantly, accepted as his own.
Crystal Lariza
Portland, OR native, Crystal Lariza is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and is as eclectic as they come. She has made her way through folk rock bands, soul bands and now is immersed in the world of acoustic music with her band, Never Come Down. She has written songs for TV and commercials, was nominated for Vocalist of the Year in 2022 & 2023 by The International Bluegrass Music Association, and has opened for world class acts such as – Mavis Staples, Robert Plant, Old Crow Medicine Show and The Travelin’ McCourys. She currently lives in Hood River, OR and teaches vocal empowerment and harmony workshops in between touring.
Bryan John Appleby
For two decades, West Coast singer-songwriter Bryan John Appleby has been writing, recording, and performing original music in Seattle. His folk-centric body of work incorporates breezy mid-century pop, intricate fingerpicking, lush cinematic layers, and lyrics that often evoke his Central Coast origins.
His latest full-length, Underwater Easy Breathing, exemplifies his distinct production palette. Oceanic and synth-laced, the album is a natural next step in his wandering, often densely layered repertoire. Previous works include The Narrow Valley (2015), a maximalist concept album drenched in dreamy, orchestral elements and experimental sounds, and Fire on the Vine (2011), a darker collection with more conventional folk structures and organic instrumentation.
With a house show tour circuit taking him throughout the Western States, Appleby has performed alongside friends and colleagues including Damien Jurado, Deep Sea Diver, Tomo Nakayama, Y La Bamba, Shaina Shepherd, Dean Johnson, Sera Cahoone, and many others.
