Spring Strings in the Wallowas
Recreational Chamber Music Players' Retreat

The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance in cooperation with Wallowa County Bed and Breakfasts is hosting an exciting weekend retreat for string chamber music players (violin, viola, cello) designed to celebrate music for string quartets and other small string ensembles. In response to players' requests, we have added player coaches this year, plus moved the event from mid-week to the weekend.

Participants are invited to bring along their favorite string ensemble music and enjoy the solitude and majestic beauty of early spring in the Wallowa Mountains. Delicious catered meals featuring the bounty of Eastern Oregon, fellowship opportunities with other string musicians, and the gracious hospitality of Wallowa County's bed & breakfast inns are included. Indoor recreational opportunities for spouses and traveling companions are planned, including a tour of a bronze foundry or local artist studio on Saturday.

HOW IT WORKS:

Make your lodging choice from participating bed & breakfasts included below and contact the B&B directly. Be sure to indicate that you are participating in the Spring Strings in the Wallowas Retreat. You'll make arrangements to pay your lodging deposit and your registration fee for the Retreat with the innkeeper. Basic registration per musician is $155.

Your traveling companion or spouse may join in meals for additional cost. (See registration
form) At the welcome dinner on Friday night, participants will get acquainted and organize a playing schedule, allowing an opportunity to play with a variety of ensemble partners, at multiple rehearsal locations. Beginning Saturday morning, participants will meet after breakfast for the following two days for playing sessions and lunches at participating bed and breakfasts. Sunday night's dinner will be followed by an opportunity for retreat groups to perform the music they've practiced for each other (encouraged but not mandatory).

Our coaches for this year's retreat are Lisa Robertson and Daniel Perry.

	Lisa Robertson, violin, (B.M., M.A., University of Iowa, D.M., Florida State University) was a pupil of Allen Ohmes at the University of Iowa, Nicholas Chumachenco at the Zurich (Switzerland) Conservatory, Eliot Chapo at Florida State University, and has performed in master classes taught by Zino Francescatti and Christian Ferras. She was a member of European professional chamber ensembles and orchestras for nearly fifteen years. Her teaching experience includes being on the violin faculties of the Peter-Cornelius-Konservatorium of Mainz, Germany, and the Academic Viennese Music Institute of Korea, and serving as Violin Fellow at Florida State University. Lisa is the founder and music director of the long-running Wallowa Lake Chamber Music Festival and Workshop which brought top musicians to eastern Oregon to perform and teach. Lisa teaches violin, viola, string chamber music, and is co-director of the EOU Fiddle Ensemble.

	Daniel Perry is First Violinist in the Boise Philharmonic, for which he has been a member of for 9 years. Dan has played the violin since he was nine years of age, and has a B.A. in Music Performance from the University of Washington where he studied with former Chicago Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Steven Staryk. Perry is a founding member of Castle Rocks Strings for which he performs as first violinist and plays classical quartet literature for myriad musical occasions. He has performed in concert with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, Anchorage Symphony Orchestra and Anchorage Opera Company as a first violinist, as Associate Concertmaster of the Boise Baroque Orchestra, in addition to performing with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Kurt Bester, Melissa Manchester, Chuck Mangione, Pavarotti and others. He was a founding instructor and co-conductor of the Sun Valley Music Conservatory and currently maintains a vibrant private teaching studio.
