Eric grew up playing a mix of classical violin and doing Texas style contest fiddling. It wasn’t until college that fellow fiddle camp instructor Duane Boyer introduced Eric to the genre of Bluegrass in 2011. Now out of college, Eric still enjoys growing his Bluegrass skills by playing with Duane and other bluegrass enthusiasts for local events.

Class: Bluegrass Fiddle

Skills to be taught: Bluegrass bowing styles, appropriate double stops, structure of Bluegrass breaks, classic licks that can be used in most any bluegrass tune or break. Written music will be provided as an aid for outside of class – in class we will learn by listening, watching, and playing with the “I play, we play, you play” format.  Besides focusing on the main melody of tunes, we will also study and play the underlying chord structures – classmates will learn to accompany each other on their own fiddles.

Eric will be focusing on 3-5 Kenny Baker tunes (classic Bluegrass fiddler).  He will also teach the basic structure of Bluegrass breaks, and how to chord behind others when they are soloing.
